SKINNED
Videoart
2018

A Dadaist collage on identity, constructed through impossible selfies taken by the protagonists of some of the most iconic masterpieces in the history of portraiture and self-portraiture.

These figures come alive and slip beyond the boundaries of their historical and cultural definition. Then, suddenly, they pick up a smartphone. They call. They wait.

The eternal suspension of those trapped in the sterile choreography of a call center enters the timeless, lyrical, and idealized space of the portrait.

Contemporary everyday life insinuates itself into these images as a foreign and corrosive force, both alienating and alienated. The result is a short circuit between the symbolic aura of art history and the banal violence of the present.

What lies beneath the skin, exposed and exhausted by the toxic radiation of the mobile phone? What would Leonardo da Vinci or Andy Warhol have done with this sinister device?
